Height: Take off 20m (60ft)

Site Description

A run of approximately 3 miles north to Filey is possible, and several miles South along 400ft chalk cliffs towards Flamborough, winds and experience permitting.

Takeoff is a pleasantly rounded take-off and mostly clear from shrubs and rocks. Pilots should not attempt to make landing approaches to the take-off areas from the bowl behind take-off, as this area can be extremely turbulent.

This is an extremely difficult place to top land, especially when windy and should only be attempted by pilots with a very high level of skill.

NOTE: THE HIGH TAKE OFF (TOP) IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

2. Basic Information

Grade of Pilot - Suitable for all level of PG pilots with some soaring experience.

3. Site Rules and Guidance

A) Check the Club website for details of possible limitations on flying Speeton and Bempton cliffs.

B) Not to exceed the speed limit on-site.

C) No Hang Glider top landings on the campsite.

D) Pilots should never fly below ridge height on the high chalk cliffs from Speeton to Bempton. This will bring us in conflict with the RSPB reserve at Bempton.

E) NEVER fly past the triangulation point CLICK HERE (or image below) on the cliff edge at Speeton regardless of height between 1st APRIL and 30th SEPTEMBER.  Outside these dates you must be 1000ft (300m) AMSL which is at least 500ft (150m) above the trig point.

F) Beach landings are advised.

G) No flying when the tide is in, i.e. minimal beach if a beach landing is required.

H) No flying close to any caravans along the cliffs.

I) Stay well out in front.

J) There is to be no acro or big wingovers near the nesting birds at Bempton Cliff.

Guidance and Information:

Paragliding at Reighton is a very popular site, which caters for all grades of flyers lots of room in the air with good height gains to be had.

HG pilots need to keep an eye on the tide, as the beach is usually the only landing option. From the low take-off flying is fairly easy with no real vices, and still gives access to Speeton and Bempton cliffs in the right conditions.

Talk to more experienced pilots before attempting any of the runs. Height in excess of 2000ft ATO are fairly regularly attained, if you can get on to Bempton cliffs.

However a word of warning, the wind will be significantly stronger on the high cliffs, and rotor extends from close to the edge as far as a mile plus down wind.
If you are unsure of the wind strength then don’t venture onto the big cliffs.

Thank you.
